Where the Defaults Come From

  • Warranty at ~2% of net sales. Brunswick Corporation FY2024 Form 10-K: warranty provisions of $83.0M plus $16.6M for pre-existing warranties, and payments of $102.3M, against net sales of $5,237.1M. MasterCraft's FY2025 filings run higher for the nine months reported. Default 2%.
  • Cost of money 5.5–10%. Dealer floor-plan financing quoted at 5.5–7.5% (Crestmont Capital, 2025) and 8.07–10.32% on one public dealer group's inventory facility (SEC filing, March 2024). Default 8%.
  • Marine labour $70–$150 per hour. Discover Boating puts shop rates at $70–$120; South Florida shops report $120–$150; factory-certified diesel technicians exceed $175. Used to price technical support time.
  • Cost per support call. ContactBabel's inbound average is $7.16 per call; voice benchmarks for 2026 run $9–$16; complex technical calls cost 2.5–3× a routine one. A dealer or boat-builder employee taking a weekend technical call is priced at $40 by default.
  • Repurchase intent. J.D. Power marine studies: 60% of owners rating their boat 9/10 say they will definitely repurchase the brand, against 31% at 8/10. The delivery experience is part of that score: 70% of our survey respondents said it shaped their view of the brand.
  • Our own research. YACHTWAVE Boat Owner Survey, June 2025 (n=400); interviews with over a dozen boat builders, 2023–2025.
  • Assumptions, not sources: calls per build, minutes per call, delay rates and days, error rates and concession size, kit cost, and every removal percentage. They are set deliberately low; change them to yours.
