What is this? How YACHTWAVE is priced and what unlocks the advanced features. The short version: free for individual boat owners, paid for professional and commercial use.
The Basics
YACHTWAVE comes in editions:
- Personal (free) — for individual boat owners using the app on their own boats. Includes the core features: tasks, maintenance logs, service schedules, engines and equipment, readings you enter by hand, checklists, inventory, documents, pictures, notes, contacts, the AI Mechanic®, and sharing your boat with your crew. The Cruise Log and Expenses are not part of the free plan.
- Fleet Edition (paid) — for professional and commercial use: yacht managers, fleet operators, boat manufacturers, charter operators. Unlocks the cross-vessel views, organization-wide crew management, fleet reporting, and other multi-boat workflows.
- Plus (shown as Personal+ in the app for now) — a paid plan for individual owners that adds features such as the Cruise Log, Expenses, Provisions and YachtLINK® device data. It is not offered for sale yet.
YACHTWAVE doesn’t charge boat owners. Quoting our own pricing rationale: Others have tried to build something like YACHTWAVE by charging boat owners a small monthly fee — the economics don’t work. Our approach is different: boat owners get the app free, and we license the commercial side of the platform, where the per-boat value is much higher and the model is actually sustainable.
Key Things on These Screens
There are no purchase or billing buttons in the mobile app. Starting a trial, choosing a plan, paying, and assigning subscriptions to boats are all done in the YACHTWAVE web app at app.yachtwave.com. The phone shows where things stand.
Subscription Tab (My Fleet)
- One card per subscription edition — the edition’s name across the top.
- On a trial — the number of days remaining.
- On a paid edition — how many subscriptions are Available and how many are Used.
Boats Tab (My Fleet)
- One row per boat the company manages — its name, year, manufacturer and model, and the subscription it is on (or that it has none).
Plan Status on My Boats
Each boat’s tile on My Boats shows its plan status:
- On a trial — the home-port line reads “Evaluation period ends in N days”. Opening the boat shows a notice about the evaluation, and the boat’s dashboard shows a banner with the days left (red when fewer than 5 remain).
- Expired — the tile shows Expired with the date. Tapping it explains how to restore access; the boat can’t be opened.
- Subscription Required or No Subscription — the boat needs a trial or a subscription. Tapping the tile explains what to do (for a company boat, assign one of the company’s available subscriptions to it in the web app).
How to Start a Fleet Edition Trial
- On a computer or tablet, log in to the YACHTWAVE web app at app.yachtwave.com.
- Set up your company in the My Fleet section (or create it on the phone first: bottom tab bar → My Fleet → Create a Company).
- Start the trial and choose the boats to put under the company.
- Back on the phone, the boats show “Evaluation period ends in N days” on My Boats, and My Fleet → Subscription shows the days remaining.
How to Restore Access to a Boat That Shows Subscription Required or Expired
- On My Boats, tap the boat to read the message. It tells you what the boat needs.
- Log in to the YACHTWAVE web app and, in My Fleet, start a trial, renew the subscription, or assign one of your company’s available subscriptions to the boat.
- Back on the phone, pull down on My Boats to refresh. The boat opens once its subscription is active.
If you use YACHTWAVE only for personal, non-commercial purposes and see this message, email [email protected].
Tips
- Don’t overbuy. If you have one boat and use it personally, Personal (free) is enough. Upgrade only when you hit a specific feature you need.
- Trials are real evaluations, not commitments. Use the full trial period before deciding.
- For commercial use, the Fleet Edition isn’t optional. Yacht-management companies, charter operators, and similar commercial use cases will be required to use the paid edition once the trial period ends.
- Plus vs Fleet Edition. Plus (not offered yet) is for individual owners who want advanced features. Fleet Edition is for organizations. They overlap a lot in feature set but Fleet Edition adds the organization construct, multi-vessel reporting, and cross-fleet crew.
Troubleshooting
- “My trial expired and now my Fleet features are locked.” — Pick a paid plan in the YACHTWAVE web app at app.yachtwave.com, or contact
[email protected]to discuss your needs. - “I have a yacht that shows as unlicensed but I’m on Fleet Edition.” — Open My Fleet → Boats and check which subscription the yacht is on. Each yacht is licensed individually within an organization; assign one of your available subscriptions to it in the web app.
- “I was charged but my plan is wrong.” — Email
[email protected]with the date of the charge and the plan you expected. Billing issues are sorted manually and the team responds quickly. - “I want to cancel.” — Cancel in the YACHTWAVE web app; the mobile app has no cancel button. The plan stops at the end of the period you paid for, and nothing is deleted. If you are not in an organization, you go back to the free edition. If you are in an organization, its boats show as needing a license until a plan is active again.
Frequently Asked
Is YACHTWAVE really free for individual boat owners?
Yes. YACHTWAVE is free for individual boat owners using the app for personal use. Paid editions exist for professional and commercial use cases — yacht managers, fleet operators, boat manufacturers.
Why is the model free for owners and paid for fleets?
The commercial side of boating has much higher per-boat value, which makes a sustainable business there. A large community of active boat owners using the app for free creates the credibility and engagement that makes the commercial side valuable. (We sometimes ask owners to leave a 5-star review on the App Store or Play Store for the same reason — that visibility helps more than a monthly fee would.)
When will Plus be available?
It isn't offered yet, and there is no date. Watch the in-app announcements, or email [email protected] for the latest.
What features are exclusive to Fleet Edition?
The exact feature list changes as we add capabilities. As of writing, organization-level constructs (creating an organization, organization-wide crew, multi-vessel reporting, fleet dashboards) are Fleet-only.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Cancel in the web app at app.yachtwave.com: My Fleet → Subscription → Manage Billing → Cancel Subscription. The plan stops at the end of the period you've paid for, and nothing is deleted. If you also want to close your account, open My Account → Delete Account in the app.
Can I share my Fleet Edition license with another captain?
Only through your organization. Fleet Edition licenses are per-vessel, but the Fleet features go only to members of the organization. Someone you add as crew without making them an organization member can open the boat, but doesn't get its Fleet features. To share them, invite the captain to your organization in the web app.
